Turkiye plays a critical role in ensuring Europe’s security, and this fact is now being openly acknowledged, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara.
“The heated debates over the past weeks have shown that European security without Turkiye will not be possible,” Erdogan remarked, emphasizing the growing awareness of Turkiye’s strategic importance.
Beyond security, Erdogan noted that Europe’s dependence on Turkiye extends to various sectors, including the economy, diplomacy, trade, and social affairs. “Europe’s need for our country has begun to be openly acknowledged, not only in terms of security but also in many areas,” he said.
Despite longstanding political tensions and stalled negotiations regarding Turkiye’s EU accession, Erdogan reaffirmed his country’s willingness to strengthen ties with European nations. “Turkiye is ready to advance its relations with European countries and the EU in the framework of common interests and mutual respect,” he added.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about European defense strategy, migration challenges, and energy security, where Turkiye’s geopolitical position continues to be a key factor. As Europe grapples with evolving security threats, Ankara’s role as a NATO ally and regional power is gaining renewed recognition.
With growing acknowledgment of its significance, Turkiye seeks to solidify its position as an indispensable partner for Europe in navigating future security and economic challenges.
