Syria has shipped its first crude oil export in 14 years, a government official announced, marking a significant development for the war-torn country’s energy sector. The shipment, bound for international buyers, comes as Damascus seeks to revive its oil industry despite ongoing sanctions and infrastructure challenges.
The official said the crude oil came from fields in the eastern region of Deir ez-Zor, long a hub of Syria’s oil production. Analysts noted that restarting exports could provide much-needed revenue for the Syrian government, though volumes are likely to remain modest due to damage sustained during the country’s decade-long conflict.
