Space42, the Abu Dhabi-based space technology company, is committing $1.7 billion toward new projects as it pushes to expand well beyond the UAE market that currently generates the vast majority of its revenue.

Led by managing director Karim Sabbagh, the company sits at the intersection of satellite communications, Earth observation and artificial intelligence, using space-based infrastructure to deliver connectivity and convert satellite imagery into actionable intelligence for government and commercial clients.

Today, roughly 90% of Space42’s revenue comes from inside the UAE, with government clients accounting for about 80% of the total and commercial customers making up the remaining 20%. Over a five-year horizon, the company is targeting a shift toward a roughly 70/30 split on both fronts, international versus domestic, and commercial versus government.

The global push builds on moves the company has already made outside its home market, including a $1 billion satellite venture formed with California-based Viasat aimed at expanding global connectivity offerings.

Rebalancing so heavily toward international and commercial revenue within five years would mark a significant transformation for a company that has so far built its business primarily on UAE government contracts, requiring Space42 to compete directly with established global satellite and geospatial intelligence players on their own turf.

The scale of the committed capital signals how seriously Space42 is treating the diversification push, positioning the $1.7 billion as the financial backbone for a strategy that will determine whether the company can translate its domestic dominance into a credible global footprint.
